# Who pays what

> The business pays a small fixed cost, Fade's vault pays the reward, and one margin set upfront is split three ways.

## In one line

**The business pays a small fixed cost to add a chance to win to a payment. Fade's vault pays the reward.** The vault pays it to the account the business names in the ticket, and the business credits its customer. The customer pays nothing extra and never more than the normal price.

  ![Two separate amounts. The business pays the ticket price, a fixed cost on every payment: 1.04 USDC per 100 USDC order, whatever happens. Fade's vault pays the reward in full to the business when a ticket wins: 100.00 USDC, about 1 order in 100, which the business credits to its customer.](https://mintcdn.com/fade/3d40ozZEsGw_ChAO/images/fees/two-amounts-light.svg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3d40ozZEsGw_ChAO\&q=85\&s=6d4e4b6a79dff1a957720235f608a3ab)
</picture>

The example below: a merchant offers 1 order in 100 on us, on a 100 USDC order.

| Who | Pays | Gets |
| - | - | - |
| **The business** (card issuer, wallet, swap screen, merchant) | The ticket price, a fixed cost per payment, set upfront, from the rewards budget or the fees it already has | Each reward its customers win, which it credits to them; a cost that never depends on who wins; optionally an app share |
| **The customer** | Nothing extra | Now and then, money back, credited by the business: 10 %, half, the whole payment, or more |
| **Fade's vault** | Every reward, in USDC, in full, to the account the business names | The vault margin on every ticket |
| **The protocol** | Nothing | The protocol share, 1 % of every ticket price |

## One margin, set upfront

Every payout table declares a margin: what a ticket keeps of its price on average. It is checked on-chain before any money moves, and split the moment the ticket opens:

| Slice | Share of the ticket price | Paid to |
| - | - | - |
| **Protocol share** | 1 % (100 bps) | The protocol treasury |
| **Vault margin** | At least 1 % (the 100 bps floor), plus whatever the margin leaves above the other slices | The vault, so its liquidity providers |
| **App share** | 0 to 5 % (0 to 500 bps), chosen by the app per ticket | The app's share account |

<picture>
  <source media="(max-width: 639px)" />

  ![How a ticket price splits, with a 4 % margin and a 2 % app share: 96 % comes back to customers as rewards on average; the margin splits into a 1 % protocol share, a vault margin of at least 1 %, and the app share, 0 to 5 % at the app's choice.](https://mintcdn.com/fade/Y9ojZpaRtXDFt9Tg/images/fees/margin-split-light.svg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Y9ojZpaRtXDFt9Tg\&q=85\&s=835ce89e7c8d5ec17277371530680a34)
</picture>

The worked example below: a 4 % margin with a 2 % app share.

So the smallest margin a payout table can declare is 2 %, plus the app share. The rest of the ticket price, on average, comes back to customers as rewards.

### A worked example

A merchant offers "1 order in 100 is on us" on a 100 USDC order, with an app share of 2 %:

| | Value |
| - | - |
| Ticket price, paid by the merchant | 1.04 USDC |
| Reward if won | the whole order, 100.00 USDC, about 1 in 100 |
| Declared margin | 4 %: 1 % protocol, 1 % vault (the floor), 2 % app share |
| Protocol share | 0.0104 USDC |
| App share | 0.0208 USDC |
| Vault credit | 1.0088 USDC |

The merchant's cost is 1.04 USDC per order whatever happens. With no app share the same offer costs about 1.02 USDC. ## SOL: the integrator's own payer

Each ticket also needs a little SOL, for its account's rent, its oracle draw and the keepers who move it forward. The `payer` the integrator names advances it, and most of it comes back when the ticket closes.

| Item | Paid by | What happens to it |
| - | - | - |
| Ticket account rent, oracle prefund | The integrator's `payer` | Returned at close, except the VRF's fee and the part of the request rent today's VRF never returns (see [the VRF provider](https://docs.fade.finance/protocol/randomness.md#the-vrf-provider)) |
| Crank fee, 250 000 lamports | The integrator's `payer`, prepaid at open | Paid to whoever requests the draw and settles: the public keeper, another keeper, or the integrator itself |
| App record rent, first ticket only | The integrator's `payer` | Kept by the record |

**Fade never pays SOL for an external integrator.** The public keeper is paid by the crank fee each ticket prepays, like any other keeper. The amounts are on [Margin and shares](https://docs.fade.finance/build/fees.md).
